Liberal bumph’s carbon footprint crushes their credibility

Earlier this week Liberals posted the grammatically clumsy “50 Tips for a Green Living,” offering entirely coherent advice to us peasants like “Walk to the store” and “Buy food in bulk to avoid excess packaging.”

So, while you are icing down a popped disk from huffing a 50 pound club pack of Steak-Ums back to the house, you’ll have time to consider what you have done for the environment so that Liberals can continue business as usual.

Turns out that the colour was the only thing green about the bumf Liberals were handing out at their Green Shift announcement yesterday. Elizabeth Thompson has found out that “the green ball caps reveal they were "Made in China" - one of the most recalcitrant countries on the planet when it comes to taking climate change and greenhouse gas emissions seriously.”

A suggestion Liberals might consider for Green Living Tip 51: if you need to deck MPs out in ball caps and plastic thundersticks to distract from the complete absence of any targets for GHG reductions in the fourth version of “Stephane Dion’s Plan to Save the World” consider walking the 12,000 kms to get them.

The hat is a red herring. Good luck finding a supplier in Canada. Does one exist? Obviously several should...

Anyone who has ever been to an NDP convention / meeting / hootenanny, etc. will note the fanatical lengths Dippers go to to get not just Canadian made, but Canadian union made bumph.

Why is it so tough for Liberals to do the same? It isn't.

It's just that Libs treat their principles in the same way they treat their cheap Made in China hats ... useful for a time, and then disposable.

I stand corrected. Would the union shops give the Liberals the same rate for the merchandise?

I'm glad the NDP goes to great lengths to support not just Canadian companies, but unionized Canadian companies. Because they hired a British e-mail marketing company to help them raise money (the get this ad in the air campaign). When I pointed this out I was told it was no big deal, forget about it. Good to see so much has changed in the last year and a half, at least in terms of what's expected of others.

I'm quite sure that the owners of those union shops would happily sell merchandise to Liberatives and Conserverals at the very same price - or perhaps even a better price - that they sell to New Democrats.

What a daft question, you daft boy. By your dubious logic, Liberative apologists likelyourself would be forbidden from buying a North American manufactured car.

BCer, Thompson - and others - were merely struck by the hypocrisy (or just stupidity) of deciding to "add value" to an announcement on reducing carbon by handing out ball caps with an environmental footprint the size of Montana.

But of course, you are right to criticise, as this is a distraction from the main point -- being that Dion's carbon tax contains no targets or timelines to reduce GHGs.
